Construction of the 2nd floor of the Clinical Building.
The tentative estimate for the construction of a seven-story building, each floor consists of 1250 square meters to occupy a clinic, an operation theatre and wards.
The purpose of this project is to equip the Cancer Treatment Unit of Teaching Hospital, Kurunegala with radiotherapy facilities. At present, the unit has facilities only for surgeries and Chemo therapy for cancer patients. However, to complete cancer treatments, more than 70 percent of cancer patients should undergo radiotherapy treatments. Since the hospital does not have radiotherapy facilities, cancer patients are referred to National Cancer Institute, Maharagama (NCIM) in order to get radiotherapy treatments. Since Maharagama is about 120km away from Kurunegala, regular travelling is inconvenient and costly for poor patients. Therefore, it has been observed that many cancer patients tend to give up their radiotherapy treatments. By this proposal, it is proposed to equip the Cancer Treatment Unit of Teaching Hospital, Kurunegala with Radiotherapy facilities.
